SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher was delighted to secure all three points at Weymouth but felt his side should have won by more.

An early effort from Matt Dennis saw the Shrimpers secure a 1-0 win at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

And Maher felt it was a crucial victory for his side.

“I’m delighted with the win and three points was the most important thing,” said Maher

“The performance was good in a lot of patches and in the second half we should’ve had a couple more at least.

“Of course we want more goals but I’m delighted with everyone, they all worked their socks off and we ground it out ever so well.”

Blues now sit four points above the drop zone in 19th place, thanks to Dennis’ third goal in three games.

And Maher was impressed by the striker’s latest effort, which came just four minutes into the game.

“It was brilliant from Matt,” said Maher.

“Their corner came in which we’ve defended well and he’s taken it really well.

“He’s had a long time to think about it and a long way to travel but he showed great composure to finish it.”
