ROCK bottom Billericay Town earned a respectable point as they battled to a 1-1 draw with table-toppers Maidstone United at New Lodgethis afternoon.

The National League South’s top side have been knocked off their perch and into second following the draw, but they could have been heading back to Kent empty handed if not for an 82nd minute equaliser.

Former Southend United forward Shaq Coulthirst put Jody Brown’s Billericay 1-0 up in the 71st minute, but Reece Grant was on hand for the visitors to deny the Blues their first victory since October.

Town are now just one point from safety.

Elsewhere, Concord Rangers slumped to a 2-1 defeat away at Hampton & Richmond.

Tyrell Miller-Rodney opened the scoring, and despite the Beach Boys’ 87th minute equaliser, the hosts still found a route to victory thanks to an own goal.

Chris Search’s side remain 12th.

In the Isthmian Premier, Bowers & Pitsea suffered a fourth straight defeat and Wingate as Finchley emerged 2-0 victors.

Rob Small’s side have consequently fallen to 18th in the standings.

Meanwhile, in the Isthmian North, Hashtag United’s exceptional run of form was halted as Aveley, who sit at the top of the table, clinched a 2-0 victory at the Len Salmon Stadium.

George Sykes and Southend United loanee Jon Benton were on target for the visitors.

Canvey Island enjoyed a 3-0 victory away against Romford to keep them within one point of the top of the table.

Matthew Price, Evans Kouassi and Callum Fitzer all scored for the Gulls.

To round up Saturday’s action, two late goals sunk Basildon United to a 2-0 defeat against Heybridge Swifts.

Darren Phillips netted before Joseph Claridge stroked home a penalty a minute before time.
