SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher is delighted the Shrimpers are hosting their first ever ‘Match for Mind’ tomorrow night.

Blues’ clash against Yeovil Town at Roots Hall will see the club looking to raise awareness of mental health issues.

And Maher is fully behind the idea.

“Lockdown was difficult and people have their own different struggles,” said the Blues boss.

“It’s something I’m big on at the club and there is a big issue around mental health in this country.

“It’s massively important and I’m delighted the club are involved in it and supporting it in such a way like they are.”

The Match for Mind will begin with a group of Southend supporters walking from Chelmsford to Southend, the area covered by SECE Mind, with the matchball ahead of the game.

The Shrimpers squad will also warm up in Mind t-shirts before kick off while representatives from SECE Mind will also be in attendance to speak with supporters.

Volunteers will also be collecting donations on the night or alternatively donations can be made online here
