GILLINGHAM are keen to appoint former Southend United goalkeeper Andy Woodman as manager.

Woodman is currently in charge of Bromley but the National League club have confirmed an approach has been made by the Gills.

A club statement said: “The club can confirm that it has received an official approach from Gillingham Football Club for permission to speak to manager Andy Woodman.

“Although the club has no intention of wishing to let Andy depart we always look to do the right thing by our staff and players when official approaches have been made, and thus, permission has been granted for both parties to speak.

“Gillingham are aware of the terms of Andy’s contract with Bromley Football Club and the level of compensation required.”

Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves said: “I will do my absolute best to retain Andy’s services and I very much wish to keep him at Bromley Football Club. Equally though, I accept the prospect of immediately managing an EFL League One side will be difficult for Andy to refuse.”

Woodman, who made 19 appearances for Blues back in 2000, has been in charge of Bromley since March 2021 and his team are currently fifth in the National League.

Gillingham sit second from bottom in League One and are eight points from safety.
