SOUTHEND United striker Rhys Murphy is set for ‘a number of weeks’ on the sidelines with a knee problem.
The Shrimpers top goalscorer will have an operation on Tuesday after picking up the injury against Yeovil Town.
And Blues boss Kevin Maher is disappointed Murphy is set for a spell out of action.
“Murph has got a bit of a problem with his knee which he’s going to have an operation on on Tuesday,” said Maher.
“It’s for a clear out as such but it’s going to keep him out for a number of weeks.
“Hopefully it’s not too bad but it’s disappointing to lose him because he’s an important player for us and has done ever so well.”
Murphy has scored nine goals in 24 games for Blues this season.
