NOOR Husin fired Southend United to a 1-0 win at Dover Athletic and then revealed his determination to succeed on his return to full-time football.

The 24-year-old, who joined Blues from Dartford earlier this month, bagged the only goal of the game on just his third appearance for his new club on Saturday.

And Husin is already relishing his step up with the Shrimpers.

“As soon as I came out of full-time football I’ve been working to get back into it,” said the midfielder.

“I was doing a bit of fencing with my father in law while at Dartford.

“But I didn’t want to be doing that long term and always wanted to get back to full-time football.

“I’ve done that now but I want to kick on and do well with Southend now.”

Husin had been on the books of Reading, Crystal Palace, Notts County and Stevenage before dropping down to join Dartford in 2020.

And he showed the quality the possesses when impressively volleying home his first Blues goal at the weekend.

“I’m buzzing to get off the mark,” said Husin.

“I had a shot in the first half and thought I should have scored.

“But for the goal I had plenty of time to steady myself and just made sure I made good contact.

“Luckily I did and hit the back of the net.”

The strike secured the Shrimpers their fourth win in five league games.

But Husin felt Blues were made to dig deep for their latest victory.

“It wasn’t pretty at times but we got the three points and that’s the most important thing,” said Husin.

“The pitch wasn’t ideal and we couldn’t really get it down and play.

“There were a lot of long balls but sometimes you just have to play like that.”

The victory saw the Shrimpers move up to 16th in the standings.

And Blues boss Kevin Maher was quick to praise Husin’s match-winning strike.

“Noor has got that quality,” said Maher.

“He’s going to get better the more he plays and trains too.”
