FORMER Southend United striker Matt Harrold has been placed in temporary charge of League Two strugglers Leyton Orient.

Harrold takes control following the departure of Kenny Jackett on Tuesday evening and will be assisted by O's Academy Manager Brian Saah.

Orient chairman Nigel Travis told the club's official website: “With a decision on a change of manager made, Matt and Brian will take temporary charge of first team affairs whilst the process begins for Kenny Jackett’s replacement.

“Both Matt and Brian have a close connection to the club, and I encourage you all to be loud and proud this Saturday at the Breyer Group Stadium, and really get behind the team.”

Orient are currently 18th in League Two after going 11 games without a win.

Harrold's first game in charge will be at home to Carlisle United this weekend.

The 37-year-old scored six goals in 59 games for Blues between 2006 and 2008.
