SOUTHEND United made it 11 games unbeaten with a 1-1 draw against Solihull Moors this afternoon.

Sam Dalby headed the Shrimpers in front but Callum Maycock’s equaliser on the stroke of half-time meant two of the National League’s most in-form teams could not be separated at Roots Hall.

Solihull – who had won seven of their previous eight games - started brightly with Andrew Dallas sending a close range header against the crossbar before Harry Boyes saw a long range effort parried to safety by Blues goalkeeper Steve Arnold.

Joe Sbarra then fired over from 20 yards after a four on three break for the visitors before the Shrimpers hit back with Jason Demetriou having a scuffed left foot shot blocked in front of goal.

But Blues continued to threaten and broke the deadlock in the 31st minute, with Dalby on target for the eighth time this season.

The striker was picked out by a brilliant left wing cross from Leon Davies and made no mistake with a well-placed header from eight yards.

Moments later, Matt Dennis cut in from the left hand side before seeing his shot deflect inches wide of the right post.

But Solihull hit back to equalise just before the break when James Clarke’s long throw from the right flank was flicked on by Danny Newton, enabling Maycock to fire home with a neatly controlled finish from six yards.

The Shrimpers started the second half strongly with Demetriou heading over when well placed in front of goal before Dennis saw his header, from Davies’ left wing free-kick, kept out by Solihull goalkeeper Ryan Boot.

The visitors soon replied with towering substitute Kyle Hudlin heading over from six yards before Dallas saw a well-struck effort pushed wide of the right post by Southend goalkeeper Steve Arnold.

Blues responded with a double change in the 82nd minute with Jack Bridge and Callum Powell both entering the action.

Powell soon saw a low effort smothered by Boot at the near post before Boyce had a stoppage time effort smothered by Arnold.
