ROCHFORD Hundred will head to Leicester Lions in a confident frame of mind on Saturday.

Rochford ended a run of five successive defeats with a 33-9 win against Barnstaple on Saturday.

And Hundred’s Chris Shields feels the victory has given the squad a big lift.

“The win at the weekend felt like a long time coming but was a great boost for the team,” said Shields.

“Saturday’s game was enjoyable, we always felt in control of the game and the score board.

“We were pleased with the performance in the end and we’re looking forward to Saturday now.”

Rochford remain 14th in the 16 team National Two South standings and have had to dig deep this term.

Hundred are playing at this level for the first time this season after securing three successive promotions.

But Shields feels Rochford have what it takes to win more regularly once again.

“The continuous losses have been a test for the team but knowing the quality we have in the team we’ve stuck together and worked hard at training and we know we can deliver more wins this season,” said Shields.

“The league this season has been a good standard with many close scores but it’s definitely a league we can compete in.

“Our hopes for the rest of the season are to finish on a high with a few more wins to catch up to Canterbury.”

Elsewhere in National Two South on Saturday, bottom of the table Westcliff head to Old Albanians who are 10th in the table.
