MATT Dennis and Harry Cardwell were both back in training for Southend United today.

Cardwell has missed the Shrimpers’ last three matches with a hamstring problem while Dennis was absent against Grimsby Town last time out due to an ankle injury.

And Blues boss Kevin Maher will make a late check on both players’ fitness ahead of Tuesday night’s game with Dagenham & Redbridge.

“Harry has been out on the grass today so we will keep an eye on him and see if he will be able to make it or not but he’s certainly getting closer,” said Maher.

“Matt has been training too.

“He was able to get out on the grass today which is good and it gives us another option.”

Blues striker Rhys Murphy and Simeon Akinola both remain sidelined by knee problems while Tom Clifford seems favourite to replace the recently departed Kacper Lopata at the back.

Abu Ogogo remains unavailable due to a heart issue.
