STEVE Arnold feels Southend United should be remaining positive – despite Tuesday’s defeat at Maidenhead United.

Blues had been beaten just once in 15 games prior to their setback against the Magpies.

But Arnold is keen for the Shrimpers to stay upbeat.

“If you had offered us where we are now when the manager came in we would’ve done anything for that,” said Arnold.

“We do need a sense of perspective but at the same time we don’t want to take our foot off the gas so to speak.

“We’ll take it one game at a time but we’ve got to keep positive.”

Blues remain 12th in the National League standings ahead of Saturday’s clash at Huish Park.

And Arnold is keen to secure an immediate return to winning ways.

“It’s a game we’re looking to go and win like we do every week,” said the shot-stopper.

“They’re another team in the way of what we want to do as well so we’ll go there looking for three points.”

But Arnold does want to see a better defensive display from Blues.

“The refereeing decision wasn’t great on Tuesday but we still conceded two sloppy goals,” said Arnold.

“We’ll go out looking for a clean sheet on Saturday but we’re still in a positive place.”

And Arnold is pleased with own his contribution, having already made 34 appearances this season – more than he has ever made in a single campaign.

“I looked at it the other day and I can’t remember the last time I got close to 40 games,” said Arnold.

“A lot of it is down to luck really though.

“I’ve dislocated my finger and had a few tight little strains but that’s been it this season so it’s been OK.

“I don’t know what it is but it’s working and I’m enjoying it too “Southend is a massive club and a great club too.

“It’s one on the up now and we’ve got to keep it like that.

“Everyone is pulling in the same direction and it’s honestly really exciting to be part of.”
