NOOR Husin will be on a high heading into Southend United’s clash with Notts County on Saturday

The ball-playing midfielder is back in contention for Blues after missing the last two matches while on international duty with Afghanistan.

And Husin will be returning to Roots Hall buoyed by scoring his first ever international goal.

“It was a good camp and I scored my first international goal as well which was pleasing,” said Husin.

“We were meant to play Madagascar but they had a Covid outbreak so we played two other friendlies instead.

“I played 90 minutes against Kuwait which we won 3-0 and I scored a penalty and then I played 45 minutes against Jordan where we lost 1-0.

“But I’m back now and I feel fine so if I’m needed I’m good to go.”

The Shrimpers, who are 13th in the table, were beaten by Yeovil Town and Maidenhead United in the matches Husin missed.

And he is now desperate to ensure Kevin Maher’s side got back to winning ways.

“I was checking the updates on Twitter from the games and it was disappointing we didn’t get the results,” said Husin.

“But it’s all about Saturday now and we’ve got to look to get back to winning ways now.”

The match will also see Husin taking on his former team but that will not be altering his approach to the game.

“It is always different when you play your old sides but we need to get back to winning ways whoever we had been playing,” said Husin who made 32 appearances during an 18 month spell at Meadow Lane.

“It wasn’t the most stable club when I was there and the manager changed quite a lot but I enjoyed it.

“It was disappointing the way it went but I have nothing bad against them and they’re a big club at this level as well so it should be a good game.”

We’re in the middle and we’ve got to finish off the season as strongly as we can. We want to finish off well and build for next season.
