NOTTS County boss Ian Burchnall felt hat-trick hero Ruben Rodrigues was ‘fantastic’ in his side’s 3-0 win at Southend United.

Rodrigues scored all three of County’s goals in a comfortable victory at Roots Hall.

And Burchnall was full of praise for the Portuguese midfielder.

“He was fantastic but not just his goals, it was his work-rate off the ball as well,” said Burchnall.

“He was a genuine talisman today and this system suits him so well.

“We play with the three midfielders, he plays at the top of them and he really understands that role.

“He took his goals fantastically well and he fully deserved his hat-trick.

“I’m not sure if it’s his first but kept saying finally, finally so I presume it is.”

County remain sixth in the standings and Burchnall felt his side were always in control against Southend.

“It was very solid, composed performance and we were in control for most of the game,” said Burchnall

“We didn’t flow like sometimes it does when we’re at home but we looked in good control throughout.”
