SOUTHEND Saxons will complete their London One North season with a trip to Colchester tomorrow.

Saxons sit fifth in the standings ahead of their final game of the campaign.

And co-captain Matt Wagstaff is expecting a difficult last outing before the summer break.

“Colchester will be very physical in attack and defence,” said Wagstaff.

“However, this is no surprise to us.

“It will be a ferocious encounter with them needing to win to guarantee promotion.

“This is a great challenge and the sort of game you want to be involved in at this stage of the year.

“The team are excited to finish strongly, and potentially finish fourth.”

Southend are currently five points behind fourth placed Harpenden and eight points behind third placed Colchester.

But Wagstaff feels it has been a strong season for Saxons.

“This has been a very successful season in the sense of performances,” said Wagstaff.

“We have played some outstanding rugby; competed and even beaten teams above us, but importantly there is a buzz back around the club as a whole.

“In hindsight, better results against teams down the bottom would have meant we were fighting for promotion as well.

“However this is promising going in to next year.”
