CANVEY Island are through to the Isthmian North play-off final after beating Felixstowe & Walton United 3-1 at Park Lane.

Matthew Price headed the Gulls in front after just two minutes before the visitors equalised midway through the second half with Samuel Nunn on target.

But Evans Kouassi restored Canvey’s lead four minutes from time before he sealed the victory with another goal in the dying seconds to leave boss Brad Wellmen delighted.

“This is why the boys play the game of football,” said Wellmen.

“A home play-off semi-final with one thousand people in the ground.

"The noise was relentless and I think it drove us on.

"We started the game really well and had them on the run for most of the first half.

“We came out for the second half and had a 10 or 15 minute spell, they scored but the crowd really got behind us and drove us on.

“When you’ve got people like Kouassi and Pricey in the team with pace and power who score goals it’s exciting.

“I’m really pleased and the boys are buzzing with the result.”

Brentwood Town will now visit Park Lane for Friday’s final after beating Stowmarket Town 2-1 in their semi-final.

And Wellmen is hoping for another special night.

“There could be as many as 2,000 people in here on Friday,” said Wellmen.

“It will be some atmosphere and to be fair to Brentwood their fans make it a good atmosphere as well so it will be really good off the pitch.

“They’re a hard-working team and they’re similar to Felixstowe.

“Since Rod took over they’ve got stronger and stronger and for me they were always going to be the team to look out for.

“But we’ve got the players and we’ve got the belief so we’ll be ready for it.”
