SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher wants his players to start ‘putting their foot through’ their penalties.
Callum Powell saw a spot-kick saved by Weymouth goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Roots Hall.
And Maher is keen to see penalties taken with more power.
“I think you just need to put your foot through the ball,” said Maher.
“We’ve missed enough so just put your foot through it, like Cards (Harry Cardwell) showed the other day at Barnet.
“I think sometimes you can try to be a bit clever but there have been a few this year and it costs you.”
Blues have now missed three penalties in eight games with Sam Dalby and Jason Demetriou also seeing efforts saved from the spot.
