SOUTHEND United striker Harry Cardwell was forced off with an ankle injury during Monday’s 1-1 draw with Weymouth.

Cardwell was substituted during half-time at Roots Hall.

And Blues head coach Kevin Maher felt it was the sensible option to make a change.

“Harry had a problem with his ankle and once that happened we couldn’t risk it,” said Maher.

“It gave someone else an opportunity too.”

Matt Dennis replaced Cardwell in attack but there was no place in the squad for Sam Dalby due to injury.

“He had a problem his heel,” added Maher.
