A closer look at who is out of contract at Southend United this summer.

STEVE ARNOLD: The goalkeeper made 43 appearances for Blues last season and was deservedly named player of the year. Seems certain to stay.

ROB HOWARD: The right-back started the first four games of Kevin Maher’s regime but has not featured since the 3-1 defeat at Chesterfield in the FA Cup back in November. Ended the season on loan at Farnborough Town and seems likely to leave.

NATHAN RALPH: The left-sided defender bounced back from two injury hit campaigns to make 31 appearances last season. Another who seems certain to stay.

ABU OGOGO: The midfielder made just six appearances last season and was sent off at Boreham Wood in his final game back in October. Has been sidelined due to a heart problem for most of the season. Likely to leave.

SHAUN HOBSON: Player of the year for the 2020/21 campaign, Hobson made 44 appearances last season. The defender looks certain to remain at Roots Hall.

JOSH COULSON: Made just nine appearances during the season which he ended on loan at King’s Lynn. Seems very unlikely to be at Roots Hall next season.

JACK BRIDGE: Suffered with injury and illness last term but impressed when fit and had more assists than any other player. Very likely to stay.

JAMES DUNNE: Dunne made 26 appearances last season and produced improved performances in the latter stages of the campaign. It remains to be seen what will happen next for the experienced midfielder.

TERRELL EGBRI: The winger made 12 appearances last season and ended the campaign on loan at Farnborough Town. Likely to depart Roots Hall.

TOM CLIFFORD: Was injured at the start and end of last season but made 21 appearances. Seems likely to be offered a new deal.

ASHLEY NATHANIEL-GEORGE: Suffered a serious knee injury and did not make a single appearance for Blues last season. Seems likely to leave.

LEWIS GARD: The midfielder made seven appearances last season and is believed to have already been told he will not with the club next year.

HARRY PHILLIPS: The midfielder started the first five games of the season but last made a matchday squad in November. Seems certain to leave.

MATT RUSH: The striker 12 appearances last season before heading to Chelmsford City on loan. Another who seems likely to leave.

JASON DEMETRIOU: The right-back made 35 appearances last season but was sent off on the final day of the campaign against Torquay. I would be surprised if he is not at the club still next season.

JOHN WHITE: The long-serving defender seemed to wave goodbye to Blues with his late substitute appearance against Torquay on Sunday. The defender has been at Blues since 2013 but seems likely to leave this summer.

WILL ATKINSON: The midfielder returned to Roots Hall for a second spell at the start of last season and went on to make 35 appearances. Started just one of the last five games.

SIMEON AKINOLA: Made just one appearance last season due to a knee injury. Could maybe be invited back in pre-season to prove his form and fitness?

JON BENTON: Impressed while on loan at Aveley in Isthmian North and made his first team debut for Blues as a second half substitute against Weymouth earlier this month.

OLI COKER: Had a spell out on loan with East Thurrock in the Isthmian Premier last season but did not make an appearance for Blues. Trained with the first team towards the end of the campaign and was on the bench against Torquay on Sunday.

EREN KINALI: The winger did not make a single appearance last season and seems likely to leave Roots Hall.

MILES MITCHELL-NELSON: The centre-back also failed to make a first team appearance last season and ended the campaign on loan at Canvey Island. Unlikely to be with Blues next season.

COLLIN ANDENG NDI: The goalkeeper was back up for Steve Arnold last season and saved a penalty on his debut against Dorking Wanderers. Made his first league start in a 5-0 defeat at National League champions Stockport County.

LEON DAVIES: The right-back joined Blues in January and made 16 appearances. It remains to be seen what will happen next for the 22-year-old.
