DAN Mooney looks set to be exciting signing for Southend United.

The attack minded winger joined Blues a fortnight ago.

And Altrincham fan Tony Collier believes Mooney will impress with the Shrimpers.

“Dan Mooney has been an exciting player to watch and he has improved in the time we’ve had him too,” said Collier.

“He’s an exciting tricky winger with plenty of skill and pace but he can be a bit one footed.

“He’ll be an exciting addition although Alty fans think he’s taken a step backwards in moving to Southend.”

Blues finished one place and three points higher than Altrincham in the National League last season.

And Robins fan Jake Worrall remains surprised Mooney has not joined a Football League side.

“I’m a bit surprised he hasn’t gone to a League club considering his age and stats from the last season but he should be a good fit at Southend and overall they should be happy to have him,” said Worrall.

“But am I sad he’s left? To be honest, not really.

“I believe we will get little bit of money for him so that’s a small benefit.

“Out of all our attackers I’m least concerned about him leaving as he can be such a frustrating player at times for fans as he can often be wasteful and is very one footed.”

However, Mooney scored 13 goals for Altrincham last season and Worrall expects the winger to remain on the front foot with the Shrimpers.

“Dan is definitely an individual player,” said the Altrincham fan.

“He prefers to have the ball at his feet and to cut in and take on players.

“I can’t see him playing anywhere other than right wing and focusing his game on cutting in from there.

“Southend can expect a player that isn’t afraid to take on the other team with a slightly inconsistent success rate.”

Mooney and former Eastleigh midfielder Cav Miley are Blues’ two summer signings so far but the club remain in talks with other transfer targets and hope to add to their squad before the start of pre-season training.
