RYAN Peniston’s quest for a quarter-final slot at Eastbourne will continue into a second day.
Peniston won the first set of his second round clash against Pedro Martinez on a tie-break before the Spaniard hit back to win the second set 6-3.
But, with Peniston leading 3-2 in the deciding set, play was suspended after Martinez complained the court was too slippery to continue.
The match will now resume on Thursday at 12 noon with the winner going on to play Jack Draper in the last eight later in the afternoon.
Draper beat Diego Schwartzman 6-5, 7-6 (3) and now hopes Peniston will be his next opponent as he is keen for more British players to do well.
"I have got a really good relationship with Cam (Norrie), Dan (Evans), Andy (Murray), Ryan as well.
"We train together on a daily basis and yes, I am good mates with them on and off the court.
"I think that is one thing where British tennis is changing.
"We want to push each other to get to the top 100 and I am very happy for Ryan.
"He is having an amazing few weeks and I hope I play him tomorrow."
