THE Iron have added another striker to their new-look squad with the weekend arrival of 21 year-old Matt Rush following his release from Southend United at the end of last season.

Highly thought of at Roots Hall where he played 23 games for the first team the Wickford-born striker also had loan spells at Harlow Town, Tonbridge Angels and finally played 16 games for neighbours Chelmsford City towards the end of last season.

Rush’s signing follows hot on the heels of another striker 20 year-old Alfie Matthews who put pen to paper at the Dunmow Group Stadium on Thursday evening.

He had spent 11 years at Arsenal’s Academy before joining Crystal Palace and then played on loan for the last few weeks of last season’s campaign at National League South side Welling Utd.

He had played for both Arsenal U18 side and also for Palace’s U23 team.

The other young strike also joining the Iron is 23 year-old Ben Fowkes who spent last season playing for Needham Market and manager Harrop is hoping the new players will link up and can score goals regularly, solving one of the Iron’s issues.
