CRICKET: Hadleigh & Thundersley dug deep to secure a draw at table-topping Wanstead & Snaresbrook in the Premier Division of the Essex League.

Wanstead batted first and put on 121 for the opening wicket before eventually opting to declare on 326/6.

Haider Ali Syed Zaidi took 3/69 for Hadleigh while skipper Sam Handley took 2/97.

In reply, Hadleigh finished on 291/9.

Luke Smith top scored with 85 while Jack Wagstaff hit 47 before Darius Vapiwala and Richard Revell remained not out to stop third placed Hadleigh suffering defeat.

In Division One, Billericay drew with Loughton.

Billericay batted first and made 240/7 with the in-form Grant Roelofsen again leading the way with an impressive 90.

Matthew Bell added 59 not out while Arjun Bhardwaj added 33.

Fourth placed Loughton then also impressed with the bat, scoring 240/4.

Arjun Bhardwaj took 2/46 and Callum McDonald 2/68 for a Billericay side who remain third in the standings.

Wickford, who remain bottom of the table, lost by six wickets against Upminster.

Wickford scored 258/8 with opener Huzaifa Umer hitting 72 and Dean Etchells 70.

However, second placed Upminster made it home for the loss of just four wickets.

In Division Two, third placed Westcliff beat Old Southendian & Southchurch by six wickets.

Old Southendian batted first and scored 285/4, thanks to centuries from Max Craddock and Ahsan Yousaf.

Opener Craddock hit 143 while Yousaf scored 106 not out but it was not enough to stop Westcliff winning.

Hammad Ul Hassan led the way with a superb 108 while opener Joe Robbins added 88 and Peter Barnes 61 not out to ensure another victory for Westcliff.

Elsewhere, ninth placed Leigh on Sea saw off Benfleet by seven wickets.

Benfleet batted first after winning the toss and made 236/7.

Fayaz Khan Nasseri scored 72 and Andrew Brunning 35 while Tim Knox (4/49) was the pick of Leigh’s bowlers.

Leigh then reached the required total for the loss of three wickets with Jake Mcmullen scoring 64 not out and Matthew Wagstaff 61 not out while George Thurlow added 51.

In Division Three, Southend & EMT lost by three wickets against Barking.

Southend made 239/7 before Barking passed the total for the loss of seven wickets.

Southend now sit 15th in the table.
