HARRY Taylor is being backed to make a big impression at Southend United.

The 25-year-old midfielder swapped Barnet for Blues last week.

And Bees supporter Carla Devine is sad to see Taylor depart.

“I was gutted to see him leave because he’s been my favourite Barnet player for years,” said Carla

“I think he’ll be a big miss in the side no doubt.

“He does the simple stuff well and you can rely on him to do his job.

“However, I think the move came at the right time.

“We’ve had a lot of managers come and go which has seen Harry shift around a lot.

“I think now he needs to nail down that one position in the side and his versatility be used as a bonus if the team’s looking a bit thin.”

Taylor made 184 appearances during a seven year stint with Barnet.

And he lined up in a number of different positions while at the club.

“The word you’ll probably hear associated with Harry Taylor most at Barnet is versatile,” said Carla

“It’s definitely a title he deserves because he played pretty much every position apart from goalkeeper for us at some point during his time at the club.

“But he is genuinely a player who will give everything for the shirt and does the dirty work without complaints.

“He’s not afraid to get a tackle in and can play some good passing football too in the right game.”

Taylor will be looking to show that with Southend.

And he seems likely to line up in midfield, a role he was used in quite regularly while with Barnet.

“He was kind of dotted around at Barnet but generally he would be a centre back or central midfielder depending on the team and the manager,” said Carla.

“Under Darren Currie in a fully fit side he would play as a midfielder but he spent some time this season in defence too.

“At this stage he’s comfortable in both roles but personally I think he’s played some of his best football in a midfield role.”

Taylor was one of three signings made by the Shrimpers last week with right back Gus Scott Morris joining from Hemel Hempstead and centre-back Louis Lomas signing from Brackley Town.
