SOUTHEND United are looking to tie up a deal for former Barnet midfielder Wesley Fonguck.

Echosport understands the 25-year-old has been training with the Shrimpers and the National League club are keen to add him to their squad.

Fonguck joined Barnet from Crystal Palace as a second year scholar and went on to make 139 appearances for the Bees, scoring 14 goals.

The midfielder also worked with Blues’ assistant head coach Darren Currie during his time with Barnet and could follow Harry Taylor in swapping the Hive for Roots Hall this summer.

The Shrimpers continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to local rivals Colchester United tonight.
