SOUTHEND United have completed the signing of striker Chris Wreh.

The former Banbury United forward has signed a one year deal after impressing on trial.

And Blues boss Kevin Maher felt Wreh has shown in pre-season just why he deserved to be handed a permanent contract.

"During the games Chris has shown he knows where the goal is," said Maher.

"He’s a strong boy and there’s plenty of room for improvement too.

"He’s jumping up a couple of leagues but we think the potential is there to be a good striker.

"His goals record last season was impressive and whatever level you play at, if you know where the goal is that’s the main thing.

"He certainly does and he contributes in assists as well."

Wreh scored twice in three pre-season appearances for the Shrimpers and hit the back of the net 23 times for Banbury last term to help them win promotion into National League North.

The 25-year-old also had 16 assists and will give Blues something different in attack.

"He will provide a good option for us and it was an area we were looking to add in," said Maher.

"With what we already have I think he makes us more competitive.

"I’m pleased to get it over the line so he can continue working with the group."
