SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher would not be afraid to hand Jaden Crowhurst his first team debut.

The 18-year-old right back - who played the full 90 minutes against Concord Rangers on Saturday - has performed well for the Shrimpers during pre-season.

And Maher is among those to have been impressed by Crowhurst’s performances.

“I think he’s done brilliantly in pre-season,” said Maher.

“He’s another option if we need it and looking at him today I wouldn’t be fearful of putting him in at all.”

Blues are currently short of options at right-back with Jason Demetriou suspended for the first three games of the season and Gus Scott-Morriss still sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Harry Taylor lined up on the right hand side against both Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace’s under 21 team.
