SOUTHEND United have completed the signing of Wrexham striker Jake Hyde on a season long loan.

The 32-year-forward has bagged 106 goals during his career.

And Blues boss Kevin Maher is delighted to have the forward on board for the forthcoming season.

"He’s a proven striker at this level, he was sought after last year when he went to Wrexham and again this season," said Maher.

"We know what he will bring - goals, knowledge of the league and his knowledge of the game is very good too.

"I’m delighted to have him in and a lot of clubs were after him in this league and the one above."

Hyde joins the Shrimpers to replace Sam Dalby who has made the move in the opposite direction.

And Maher said the forward was incredibly keen to head to Roots Hall.

"He was desperate to come to the club," said Maher.

"When we spoke, he couldn’t speak enough about how much he wanted to be here.

"He’s desperate to score goals too and that’s all he talks about when you speak to him.

"We need someone who is going to get in the six yard box, he’ll get on the end of crosses and his movement is good.

"He knows where to be in the box when the ball is coming in and I'm really pleased to have him on board."
