KEVIN Maher wants a season of progress for Southend United.
The Shrimpers kick off their National League campaign against Boreham Wood at Roots Hall on Saturday.
And Maher’s main hope for the months ahead is to ensure Blues, who finished 13th last term, build upon the progress made since appointment in October.
“We want to show an improvement on last year again,” said Maher.
“There were improvements last year and changes throughout the squad too.
“When you do that it can take time and we’ve been happy with what we’ve recruited so far.
“The lads have all integrated well together which is pleasing.
“There are still things around the club we need to improve, we know that.
“That’s got to be right before we’re fully ready to make a real charge to be where we want to get to but we’re in a decent place and we want to make more steps forward.”
