SOUTHEND United's fans have their say on Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Boreham Wood at Roots Hall

Very disappointing. Expected more. We were better when Powell came on but if we can’t beat nine men we will be in this league for ages. But it the first game so hope we will better soon.

@clarebear62_b

No aerial threat at all, Miley outstanding in that Harrison Neal midfield role, everything going through him. But unless we spend less than 45 minutes passing the ball backwards and forwards across the penalty area we won't win many games this season.

@YeattsMatthew

Seven minutes added on in the second half, the fourth official could have made it 70 and we still wouldn’t have scored.

@BrodyStopher16

Desperately need another striker. Granted their keeper made two great saves but we lack a cutting edge. Punished for a lacklustre first half but defensively we looked OK in the main. Clifford the weak link in the back line though. Miley played well and Mooney showed glimpses.

@Strutty27

Very, very poor. Desperate need of a centre forward that isn't made of glass.

We weren't good enough on the day, but I'd be embarrassed to be a Boreham Wood fan after their antics today. Dirty side fouling and time wasting from the first half.

@godofchicken

Frustrating. For too long we tried to play BW at their own game which wasn’t working. Second half was better, Powell was good. Let’s not go overboard, it’s one game from 46. Long way to go!

@samgoody23

Superb away performance.

@AllAtSeaFanzine

Our build up is far too pedestrian. We don’t open teams up and you will never score when opposition has 10 players back defending. Clifford a shadow of his best, not suited to 3-5-2 in my opinion.

@jervetheswerve1

Performance came across clueless. No problems with style of play but the quality was dire. Very static, hesitant and inability to adjust our own team against 10 (9) men.

Would call it a disjointed performance & a wee worrying against a team we wish to be up with in the playoffs.

@DonsEssex

Disappointed not to have scored but do need to be more incisive and try different things when attacking. Powell was a changing point in the game, but do need others to help him as he got double/triple teamed at times! The team needs time to gel, then I believe they can do well.

@antsk

Early season likely wrecked by the Dalby deal. Need another striker in and Cardwell fully fit ASAP.

Pathetic today, Puzzled why Powell never started even when he came on the chance of us scoring looked very slim. Where the goals coming from!?

@nikitheshrimper

Off the pace. We are in dire need of a couple of strikers that can stay on the pitch longer than eight minutes, someone strong, hungry and takes their chances, I don't want to be watching sitters go over the North Stand for the rest of the season.

@JB_Allen

Nothing to get excited about. Trying to look for positives in that their keeper pulled two good saves, and I cant remember Arnie having to do much. No cutting edge up front, no creativity. We could have played nine men until 7 o'clock and still not scored.

@sjapresley

Hard game. Boreham Wood were always going to be a challenge as they were the stronger side however that being said with nine men Blues should have beaten them .

@lydylyd

We played the far better football but it was too much "after you sir" on crosses and shots. In a few words we need to get streetwise against sides like Boreham Wood.

@phillsilver9

We haven't addressed the problems of last season one bit. Still not good enough up front and still not good enough at the back. A stronger squad perhaps than last season but not a bettter starting 11. Another disappointing mid table finish awaits.

@Gdjg72

Worrying, if predictable. But it is only the first game. Powell a bright spark, but this is known to us all and he needs a decent run in the side. Defence looks OK.

@theseaside100

Poor first half, improved in the second once we’d realised their centre backs were quite good in the air. Lack cutting edge, creativity and bite and look very light weight. Need to add a striker and a bully or two. Not one person in the crowd surprised when Hyde got injured.

@shrimperlee

We need a presence up top. It's the same old get in and around the area and run out of ideas, players not confident to have shot. We dominated that game without really creating. If we don't get a striker in over the next couple of days we will be playing catchup.

Disgraceful tactics by Boreham Wood with some terrible tackles, feigning injury and time wasting. But one moment of quality won them the game. But we still can’t score enough even against nine men.With Hyde injured now we’re down to just two fit strikers and no target man, a big concern!

@tommyharris57

Boreham Wood spent much of last season in the top seven with periods at the very top, so they are obviously a well organised side with a proven game plan. Dirty? Yes, timewasting? Yes. Have we forgotten what league we are in already? Clearly.

@sufcberry

Poor result, worrying performance. New season, same story.

@RyanStubbs_

First half we were very hesitant. Second half huge improvement and a lot more positives. Let’s get behind the boys it’s a long season.

@KEYSGK1

We never looked liked scoring today, even when they went down to nine men. For me it was always up front which needed most attention in the summer and I don’t think it has been addressed yet….
