CONCORD Rangers started the National League South season with a 1-0 win at Hungerford Town on Saturday.
Summer signing Ricky Modeste bagged the only goal of the game to ensure a successful opening day for the Beach Boys.
And Concord boss Chris Search was delighted to kick off the campaign with a hard fought win on the road.
“It’s three point football,” Search told the club’s YouTube channel.
“We knew coming here it would be ugly and horrible.
“Dan (Robinson) knows how he wants his boys to play and they buy into that philosophy.
“They’re a tenacious, dogged side and we knew we had to match them.
“To be honest at times in the first half I felt they dominated proceedings.
“Melvin (Minter) had a couple of saves to make and we struggled to create and get second balls.
“But we fought to stay in the game and tweaked the tactics slightly.
“I thought it was going to be a 0-0 game and we would’ve taken that but to come away with the victory was brilliant.
“What a well-taken goal it was from Ricky too.”
