SOUTHEND United defender Louis Lomas will step up his fight to regain full match fitness in a friendly at Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

Lomas endured an injury hit pre-season after being sidelined by a thigh problem.

But Blues boss Kevin Maher has confirmed the centre-back will feature in a behind closed doors clash with the Tractor Boys.

“Louis needs minutes so he will be playing in the game we’ve got against Ipswich,” said Maher.

“He got 45 minutes in our final pre-season friendly at Concord which was good but he needs to build on that now.”

Jason Demetriou, who is currently suspended from first team action, is also expected to play but summer signing Gus Scott-Morriss is not yet ready to be involved.
