SOUTHEND United saw off Ipswich Town 2-1 in a behind doors clash this afternoon.

Goals from Henry Sandat and Max Fiddes secured victory for the Shrimpers.

And Blues coach Danny Heath was pleased with his side’s work.

“The boys played well,” said Heath.

“In the first half we were the better team and they played the press well too.

“Ipswich looked to play out but the lads regained the ball up the pitch and we scored two good goals.

“But we could have scored a couple more with quicker decisions around the penalty area.”

And the wasted opportunities nearly came back to haunt the Shrimpers.

“In the second half we had more pressure on us,” said Heath.

“Before Ipswich got their goal it was a bit like a basketball game with it going end to end.

“We needed to be a bit better with the game management but when it went 2-1 it was better.

“We kept a good shape and won the game which is always positive.”

Fit-again centre Louis Lomas played 65 minutes for the Shrimpers while Jason Demetriou also featured.
