SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher hailed the character of his side following a 1-1 draw at Solihull Moors on Saturday.
A second half equaliser from Chris Wreh saw the Shrimpers secure a share of the spoils.
And Maher was delighted with how Blues fought back to pick up their first point of the season.
“It was a good test of character going a goal down away from home after losing last week,” said Maher.
“It shows we have good character and some good players too. "
The draw came after the Shrimpers had been beaten 1-0 on the opening day of the season against Boreham Wood.
And Maher was happy with the score-line at Solihull who reached the final of the National League play-offs last season.
“We’re pleased to be coming away with something,” said the 45-year-old.
“The opening 20 minutes were tough for us here and they’re a top side with some very, very good players.
“But anyone coming here and getting a point will do well and I thought we were very good after that period early on.
“Once we got a foothold in the game and believed in ourselves a bit more on the ball we were good.
“We could have got all three points but they had some chances so they might think that too.
“It's a good point for us but we’ll get regroup and get ready for Tuesday's game with Halifax now."
