SOLIHULL Moors manager Neal Ardley was disappointed with his side’s display against Southend United.

Moors were unable to build on a bright start against Blues and eventually had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

And Ardley was frustrated by the display.

“I don’t think we deserved to win,” Ardley told the club’s YouTube channel.

“It’s probably as poor as a team of mine has played for a long, long time.

“We started brightly for 15 minutes but then we started playing football that wasn’t affective in any shape or form.”

Blues regularly won the ball back high up the pitch against Solihull.

And Ardley felt Solihull should have been smart enough to change tactics.

“We want to play from the back, build and play through the thirds,” explained Ardley.

“It’s exciting when we do it but when the opposition are organised and nick six or seven balls in the centre of the pitch you have to start looking to solve the problem with a different solution and we didn’t.

“We kept trying to play nothing football and when we did go long we didn’t go and join in with it.”

But Ardley also had praise for the Shrimpers.

“As always you have to give credit to the opposition,” said Ardley.

“I knew this would be miles harder than last week when everyone was singing and dancing about a great start.

“I knew they would be organised and weren’t going to let us play the way we did last week.

“As the game wore on we became more anxious and nervous and I think they could smell that.

“Even then we could probably see the game out 1-0 but it was poor from us from a throw in.

“But credit to Southend, I thought they worked incredibly hard.”

However, Ardley did feel Solihull could have been awarded a late penalty when Andrew Dallas went to ground following a sliding challenge from Blues goalkeeper Steve Arnold.

“Whether the referee got the penalty right or wrong he wasn’t in the best place to view it,” said Ardley.

“He went to linesman and between them I think they’ve got the decision to book Dallo wrong because there was definitely contact and Dallo definitely got the ball first.

“Dallo got hit by the goalie but you’re allowed to have contact, go down for the penalty not get it and not have dived.

“The referee has got that wrong.

“Whether or not it was a penalty, it looks like it on the video but I haven’t got a great view.”
