SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher is still looking to bolster his attacking options.

Callum Powell and Chris Wreh both impressed for Blues at Solihull Moors on Saturday with the latter scoring his first goal for the club.

But, with Jake Hyde, Rhys Murphy and Harry Cardwell still sidelined with injuries Maher is short of options in the final third.

And he remains eager to add to his squad.

“We’ve had a lot of names thrown our way and we’re looking but we don’t just want to bring someone in to make up the numbers,” said Maher.

“We want to add quality but it’s difficult in terms of the market.

“The window closes at the end of the month for league clubs and I think a lot of strikers are waiting to see who they can get in the league.

“They’re biding their time before committing to things but it’s something we’re working on.

“We’re sifting through names and what’s available but it’s got to be right for us as a club and it’s got to be done properly too.”

Hyde joined Blues on loan from Wrexham just before the season got underway, only to suffer a hamstring injury on his debut against Boreham Wood.

But the Shrimpers will soon discover just how long the forward and midfielder Harry Taylor will be out for.

Maher added: “Harry and Jake due to have scans today.”

Taylor missed Saturday's 1-1 draw at Solihull Moors with a knee problem.
