SOUTHEND United right-back Gus Scott-Morriss stepped up his return to full fitness by playing an hour in an in house match yesterday.

The summer signing has yet to feature for the Shrimpers after suffering a hamstring problem during pre-season.

But Blues boss Kevin Maher is pleased to see Scott-Morriss nearing a return.

“He played the full hour of the game we had yesterday and he came through it OK as well,” said Maher.

“He’s well on the way to being involved and has been back in training since the end of last week.

“This is another step in the right direction but we will have to wait and see how he settles down after the game before deciding what happens next.”
