SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher will continue to keep tabs on Kacper Lopata after the defender went off injured at Chesterfield.

Lopata made his first start for the Shrimpers since returning from Sheffield United earlier this month.

But the 21-year-old limped off after 57 minutes against the Spireites.

And, speaking after the game, Maher was not sure exactly what had happened to the centre-back.

“We’re not sure yet,” said Maher.

“We don’t know if it was cramp or what it was.

“We’ll see how that is in due course.”

Tuesday’s match at Chesterfield was Lopata’s first competitive fixture since June and Echosport understands the injury has since been confirmed as cramp.
