BASILDON Ladies April medal was won by Margo Longman with a net 75.

Vi Madle was the victor in the three club competition on 36 points and Shirley Clayton took the Rose Bowl (33).

There have been mixed fortunes in the inter-club matches with a depressing start in the County Shield at Romford with a 6-1 loss Jenny Frizzell saved the team from a complete whitewash when she just managed a win on the 18th.

The club's fortunes enjoyed a complete reversal when they played Castle Point in the White Webbs competition.

The team of Sue Cable, Shirley Clayton, Jackie Worthington, Denise Woolley, and Josie Wilby showed that they still had what it takes when they whitewashed their opponents to earn a 5-0 win.

This was followed up with another 5-0 victory in the National Hawtree Foursomes when a mixed team played Birchwood Park at home.

Basildon are the current holders of this trophy, having taken the honours last year. So they were particularly pleased to get this first round under their belts.

Sue Cable and Rob Worthington were in sparkling form in this difficult foursomes format. They eagled the third hole and were two under par after the eighth.

There were also strong decisive wins from the other four pairs of Shirley Clayton and Dave Pettet, Hannah Worth-ington and Gordon Longmuir, Josie Wilby and Ricky Heather and Jackie Worthington and Glen Eastman.

l The first part of the opening round of the national public courses Clapham Common Knockout Shield provided the usual nail-biting excitement for Basildon.

A thrilling match was played out, with the final result not clear until the last ball was played.

The six Basildon pairs against Hainault were split with three at home and three away.

At the end of the day the teams stood all square both home and away.

But, disappointingly for Basildon, a countback was carried out and further investigations showed Hainault as winners by just one point.

The second part of the first round will be played next week against Belfairs when 12 more men will do their best to keep the competition alive.
