ON LOAN Southend United striker Jake Hyde was keen to remain upbeat following the Shrimpers’ 0-0 draw with Wrexham.

Hyde was ‘gutted’ to see his second half strike ruled out for a controversial offside decision.

But the forward will not be dwelling on his disallowed goal. “I’m gutted but it doesn’t mean we get down,” said Hyde.

“Hopefully there will be one at some point this season that shouldn’t be given and it is.

“We’ve just got to go and build on this performance now.

“The boys were brilliant from start to finish and we’re against a top, top team who I fancy to go on and win it.

“It should have been all three points for us but it wasn’t so we go again.

“We cant dwell on it or be upset.

“The decisions didn’t go for us but we’ll build again from Monday.”

Hyde was in the unusual situation of lining up against his parent club.

But the 32-year-old was determined to help the Shrimpers do well despite still holding Wrexham in high regard.

“I have a lot of respect for Wrexham, from the owners to the fans, the staff and players,” said Hyde.

“They’re a brilliant bunch and I have a lot of respect for them but this is my club now and this is who I play for.

“Even with the celebration, I will always celebrate scoring a goal.

“That’s what I’m here to do and I’m gutted it didn’t count.

“It's unusual to play against your parent club and we got confirmation yesterday.

“But I would always want to play because I don’t want to miss anymore football.”

Hyde was making his first start since injuring his hamstring on his debut against Boreham Wood on the opening day of the season.

And he is delighted to be back in action.

“I’m very happy to be on the pitch,” said Hyde.

“Anytime I’m on the football pitch I’ll be happy because it’s all I want to do.

“Some people don’t see the ins and outs of football but I’m telling you now no professional footballer wants to be injured and it’s the hardest thing ever.

“Off the pitch everything changes for you so I’m very happy to be back out there.

“I’m all good now too and I’ll get better and better the more minutes I play.

“I’m just looking forward to getting out there more often.”

The share of the spoils saw the Shrimpers drop down to 17th in the National League standings.

But Hyde is convinced things will soon start to improve.

“We’ve got a really good squad here and we’re more than capable of being right up there this season,” said Hyde.

“I truly believe that and I haven’t seen too many team spirits like this.

“We’re all in it together and it’s brilliant.

“Three or four hours after training the boys are still round playing pool or having coffee.

“They’re all in together, we’re very social and I think that goes a long way.

“These things take time but it’s building every week and it’s about turning performances into results.

“We just need to be a little bit more ruthless and work a little bit better together and we will be a very strong side in this division.

“And, if we do have a successful season, I believe we would be a very strong side in the next division too."
