SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher has received an apology after the Shrimpers incorrectly had a goal disallowed against Wrexham on Saturday.
Jake Hyde’s second half goal was controversially ruled out for offside.
But Maher has since been told by Mike Jones, the national group director of the PGMOL and the head of refereeing at the EFL, that the goal should have stood.
“We’ve had an apology in terms of the decision and now we move on,” said Maher.
“I spoke to Mike Jones and he admitted it was wrong.
“It couldn’t have been handball but that’s that and we move on now.
“It was the wrong decision and however you came to that outcome it was wrong.
“That’s disappointing because it’s cost us a couple of points and a win that would’ve been a big statement but we move on and look to that into the next game.
“Hopefully we get one or two things go our way now.”
