SOUTHEND United have signed Stoke City goalkeeper Blondy Nna Noukeu on loan until the end of January.
The 21-year-old, who was on loan at Crawley Town last season, will battle Collin Andeng Ndi for a starting slot at the Shrimpers with Steve Arnold still sidelined with a back problem.
And Blues boss Kevin Maher was no longer prepared to continue with just one option between the sticks.
“Steve has seen a back specialist this week and it might take a bit longer than we thought,” explained Maher.
“We can’t keep going with just one keeper.
“If Collin gets any kind of knock then it’s a problem and it’s up to them now to battle for the shirt.
“We’re grateful to Stoke for letting him come to us and we’ve got two good keepers now .
“But Collin has trained brilliantly when Blondy has come in and he’s kept another clean sheet today.”
Andeng Ndi has now started the last seven matches for the Shrimpers.
