SOUTHEND United striker Callum Powell experienced a wide range of emotions after securing a point for the Shrimpers at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Substitute Powell volleyed home a deflected left wing cross from Jason Demetriou, 12 minutes from time, to ensure a share of the spoils for Kevin Maher’s side.

And Powell was delighted to get back among the goals after a frustrating spell out of the side.

“It felt so good,” said Powell.

“It was a bit of frustration, relief and excitement and loads of emotions wrapped into that goal.

“But I’m always working hard and want to contribute.

“I’ve got four goals now and it could have been a few more but I think I’m still top goalscorer and I haven’t started for five games.

“The team is doing well and that’s the most important thing.

“But when I’m needed and called upon I’ll go out onto the field and do my best.”

“I was buzzing to get a goal coming off the bench and to get a goal in front of the fans who were behind us the whole way.

“That’s five on the bounce now undefeated, we’re picking up points and climbing up the table.”

Powell had scored three goals in four games before being left out of the side.

But he fully respects the decisions been made by the managerial team, despite wanting to play more.

“I’m always going to be honest and I want to play every minute of every game,” said Powell.

“All I can do is work hard and try to contribute with goals and assists because that’s what I’m in the team for.

“ Yeah I did score before coming out of the team but if the gaffer has to change the team, the formation or change personnel to get results then it’s worked and we’ve gone five on the bounce.

“When my time comes I’ll try to influence things off the bench until I do get back in the team.

“Then it’s up to me to keep producing to try and cement that place.”
