SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher has revealed why he opted to change goalkeeper for Saturday’s match at Dagenham & Redbridge.
Blondy Nna Noukeu, who is on loan from Stoke City, was handed his debut between the sticks in place of Collin Andeng Ndi.
And Maher felt the time was right for a change after Andeng Ndi suffered a slight groin problem.
“Collin’s been a carrying a slight niggle in the past couple of weeks,” said Maher.
“It’s not enough to stop him playing but it’s something he’s been managing.
“I felt it was the right time to maybe have a little change and see Blondy.
“Teams are maybe looking a little bit at Collin and putting balls in but he’s done brilliantly.
“I thought Blondy grew into the game. There’s always nerves coming in and what didn’t help was the team looking nervous as well."
