SOUTHEND United striker Callum Powell will not be giving up his goal against Notts County.

Powell was credited with Blues’ second strike of the evening, in the 2-2 draw with the Magpies at Roots Hall, despite Magpies defender Aden Baldwin appearing to get the final touch.

And Powell is perfectly happy to accept his seventh goal of the season.

“If they’re going to give me it, I’m going to take it aren’t I,” said Powell.

“To be fair, if he hasn’t got a nick on it then I’m there to put it in anyway.

“The ball in from Bridgey (Jack Bridge) was superb and I thought my run was good too because I’ve got across the near post.

“If they’re going to credit it to me I’ll take it all day long.”

The Shrimpers’ second goal of the game secured a share of the spoils for Kevin Maher’s side.

And Powell felt it was an entertaining encounter against the Magpies.

“I thought it was a great game that was a great advert for the league,” said the striker.

“It was two really good, in-form sides going head to head and it just goes to show how far we’ve come and how strong we are at the moment.

“We could have won and were probably the better team.

“Notts County are a brilliant footballing side but I thought we held our own and showcased what we can do.

“It was a great game to play a part in.”

And Powell was also pleased with the spirit shown by the Shrimpers as they twice fought back to pick up a point.

“If you look at Notts County’s previous results if they get the first goal they normally go on and dominate,” said Powell.

“Some teams could maybe crumble under that kind of pressure but we showed fantastic character to come back twice.”

Sixth placed Blues are now unbeaten in 10 league games.

And Powell cannot wait to take on Dorking Wanderers at Roots Hall this weekend.

“For me personally it’s new opposition and a new battle,” said Powell.

“But where we are at the moment and how we’re playing we’ve got nothing to fear.

“We need to impose ourselves on the game like we have been doing.

“Good teams will go and back up a performance like we had on Tuesday night.

“We want to go out, put in another good performance to get a good result.”

And Powell is also keen to help that happen.

“It’s brilliant to play in our team at the moment,” said the forward.

“Everything is organised and structured.

“We know how we want to play and I know how I’ll get success.

“I know my job and my responsibilities and I know I’ll get chances due to the great players around me.

“We have to make sure we stick to the game plan and can keep kicking on.

“For me personally, I’ve got seven goals now but I’m still nowhere near where I want to be.

“I want to get to 10 as quickly as possible and then I’m halfway there.”
