FORMER Southend United striker Daniel Webb is the joint favourite with the bookmakers to be named the next manager of York City.
The Minstermen are seeking a replacement for John Askey who they parted company with five days ago.
And Webb is among the frontrunners to take charge.
The 39-year-old, who is currently assistant manager at Chesterfield, is 2/1 for the job along with former Fleetwood Town boss Graham Alexander.
Webb – a former Southend High School pupil – made 39 appearances for Blues at the start of his playing career.
But, since hanging up his boots, Webb has gone into coaching and held several positions – including caretaker manager – while with Leyton Orient.
Webb is the son of legendary former Shrimpers manager David.
