SOUTHEND United matchwinner Omari Williams was proud of his team-mates following tonight’s 3-2 win against MK Dons.

Williams’ goal on the stroke of half-time ultimately proved to be the difference between the two teams in an entertaining FA Youth Cup clash at Roots Hall.

But Williams was always confident Blues could win the second round tie despite suffering heavy defeats in their last two games.

“Everyone is buzzing in the changing room but we knew we could get it done,” said Williams.

“I’m proud of the boys too.

“In the past two games we know we haven’t been working hard enough.

“Today we knew we had to put it right after two bad results and we’ve done it now so we’re in the third round.

“We wanted to do it for each other because we owed it to each other.”

Blues led 3-1 at half-time before Dons netted right at the start of the second period.

And Williams was pleased with how the Shrimpers reacted to the setback.

"When their second goal went in we knew we had to stick at it and we got the job done," said Williams.

"Last time we played against them (MK Dons) we put our heads down after they scored.

"This time when they got their second goal our heads were still up.

"But the way we trained yesterday I knew all the boys were up for it.

"Everyone was at it and I knew we would take that into the game.”

And Williams was also pleased to play his part by hitting the back of the net.

“When H (Henry Sandat) played the ball back he played it perfectly for me to hit it first time,” said Williams.

“There was no goalkeeper in the goal so I just hit it and it went in.

“I knew I had to take the chance but all credit to Henry.”

Williams will now look to build on the victory and his ultimate aim remains a place in the first team.

“I’ll keep working hard and hopefully it comes one day,” said Williams, who has been with Blues since the under nines.

“I’ll keep trying to put in the performances and hopefully the gaffer takes me up.”
