SOUTHEND United’s youth team match against AFC Wimbledon did not go ahead on Saturday morning due to the Shrimpers coaches not being paid, Echosport understands.

The Blues youngsters opted to boycott team training in mid-November when still waiting for their October wages.

But, despite picking up their pay packets on time for November this week, the team are showing solidarity with their coaches and agreed the match should not go ahead.

The Shrimpers under 18 side are due to back in action on Friday when they host Middlesbrough in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.

All of Sunday's matches involving Southend United's academy sides have also been called off.
