SOUTHEND United striker Chris Wreh was keen to point towards the positives of the Shrimpers’ 2-2 draw with Altrincham.

Blues went into the game on the back of two successive defeats.

And Wreh – who scored Southend’s second goal - was pleased to stop the losing sequence with a share of the spoils at Roots Hall.

“We’d lost two on the bounce so the positive is we haven’t lost today which is better than nothing,” said Wreh.

“I felt like we dominated in the first half and should probably have scored more.

“I had one that hit the post in the first half which is kind of my signature shot and we should’ve scored at least three in the first half which would have been game done.

“But overall I thought we played well and hopefully we can take that into the next game now and get three points.”

Blues head to Boreham Wood on Saturday sitting sixth in the National League standings.

And Wreh will go into the match on a high after ending a run of six games without a goal.

“I was really happy to score,” said Wreh.

“It’s been a while since I’ve scored here so it was good to celebrate with the fans.

“I just wish it could have been the goal to win the game.”

Wreh’s goal, just before the break, put the Shrimpers 2-1 in front.

But Blues were pegged back for a second time when a defensive mix up between Kacper Lopata and Blondy Nna Noukeu allowed Elliot Newby in to score.

“There was a little mix up in the second half but we’re all human and everyone makes mistakes,” said Wreh.

“After that we tried to get a third goal as quickly as we could but today wasn’t the day.”

But Wreh is certain the Shrimpers will continue to stay upbeat.

“We train well and everyone is always positive,” said Wreh.

“There’s nothing negative at all.

“I’ve been places before where it’s always been negative and the dressing room hasn’t been the best.

“But considering everything going on we stay solid as a little group and try to put a show on for the fans to get three points.”

And, when pressed further about Blues’ off the field issues, Wreh said: “At the end of the day we’re here to play football and try to win.

“We all want to progress and progress with the club too.

“Everything that happens is out of our hands.

“What’s in our hands is trying to get three points.”

However, the Shrimpers continue to be hindered by injuries.

And Wreh was troubled by an Achilles problem in the build up to Saturday’s game.

“I was injured the past two days as well so it felt good to be on the pitch,” said Wreh.

“I’ve got a heal raise in my boot now which is helping me.

“We’ve got a lot of injuries.

"It’s just one of those things where two come back, one gets injured and I’ve never experienced it before but the squad is good.”
