JACK Bridge will not be short of motivation when Southend United head to Boreham Wood this weekend.

For not only do the Shrimpers go into the game looking to end a run of three matches without a win.

But Bridge and Blues are also eager to avenge their opening day defeat to Boreham Wood on a frustrating afternoon which saw Bridge taken off at half-time.

“It was a tough day for us as a team and for me personally too,” said Bridge.

“It was frustrating for me and maybe there’s something there when you want to put it right against the team it happened to but for us it’s just another game.

“We want to put our game on them and get another three points.”

Bridge was named on the bench for the next nine games after being taken off against Boreham Wood.

But he has now firmly established himself a regular in the starting line-up and scored his fourth goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Altrincham.

“I’ve wanted to add more goals to my game and hopefully there are plenty more still to come this season,” said Bridge.

“Hopefully this is the year I can really start to get those numbers up.”

Bridge was joined on the score-sheet by Chris Wreh in Saturday’s stalemate.

But the wing-back was disappointed Blues had to settle for a share of the spoils after twice taking the lead.

“It was a little bit frustrating,” said Bridge.

“In the first half I thought we played really well but the second half wasn’t as good.

“For us it was good to get a point on the board after we hadn’t done that in the last couple of games so that was a big positive but we’d have liked all three points.”

Blues now sit sixth in the National League standings ahead of Saturday’s trip to eighth placed Boreham Wood.

And Bridge is confident the Shrimpers can put in a good performance despite their long list of injuries.

“They’re a good side and they make games difficult,” said Bridge.

“It’s a game we want to get three points on board.

“Of course it’s difficult when you get injuries within the squad but we do have a good squad and enough good bodies around it so anyone can step up and make a difference.”
