SOUTHEND United striker Harry Cardwell wants to keep on silencing opposing supporters – once the weather allows.

The Blues forward – who has scored three times in his last two games – has been subjected to taunts from visiting fans calling him a poor version of Manchester City star Jack Grealish.

But Cardwell has laughed off the chants.

“Jack Grealish isn’t someone I model myself on!,” said Cardwell.

“It’s something I’ve had from a lot of opposition fans over the years.

“I guess it’s the headband and low socks but I think we’re two completely different players!

“They were calling me a poor Jack Grealish against Darlington but I don’t mind that, I’ll take that!

“And there’s no better way to go about it than scoring a winner in the last minute so that shut them up!”

Cardwell’s brace against Darlington came a week after he also scored in a 3-0 victory against Solihull Moors.

And the forward is frustrated his goalscoring momentum has now been disrupted by back to back postponements due to frozen pitches.

“It’s been frustrating because it was a chance to keep momentum and to keep on picking up results,” said Cardwell.

“For myself I wanted to keep getting on the score-sheet but it’s one of those things.

“Once the games start up again we’ll all be ready.”

And Blues have been able to keep training hard.

“When the pitch has been frozen at the training ground we’ve trained on 3G,” said Cardwell.

“We’ve got a lot of good work in and the standards have been really high so we’re all ready to participate in games when they’re back on.”

The Shrimpers hope to be back in action against Eastleigh at Roots Hall on Saturday.

And Cardwell cannot wait to be back in action against a rival for the play-off positions.

“After the two games being postponed we’re itching to get back on the pitch,” said the striker.

“It will be a good feeling being back in front of our own fans as well but it will be a tough test against Eastleigh.

“They’re one of the teams in and around us so it’s important to be at it from the first whistle and get the three points.”
